A Bit of Evergreen

It's so easy to pop up a festive artificial tree, but we always have to have a bit of live green too! I just bought a small green tree that is still out on the patio, but a bucket of woodsy greens is also standing fragrantly by inside.

Placed near a sofa or chair, the smell wafts gently nearby whispering "Christmas" to me. I had to stop and bury my nose in the greenery just for the pleasure when I visited the nursery to see what was there!

Between the nursery, the grocery, and Home Depot, surprisingly, it was the florist that had the best deal on a bouquet of fresh greens. I always ask for a bunch of seeded eucalyptus as well. My florist keeps a supply in back, and it's always a bargain for a big bunch. Great for tablescapes and just tucking in here and there.

I have also gotten lucky now and then and had a tree dealer throw in a few green branches with my tree purchase. But one way or another, I have to have my fresh greens!

My sweetest friend just gifted me her personal copy of Nina Hartmann's first Christmas book which is now out of print and rare to find anywhere for sale. I know! I have tried to score a copy for a whole year now! I am so thrilled! And of course fresh greens are featured throughout her French/Nordic style.

Greens add so much to the smell and texture of the season. I thought you might enjoy a look at some of the other textures going on here as well. . . .

A snowy matelasse throw covers the chair by the window showing its lovely pattern in the light.

A vintage lacy edged runner is draped over the back. . . ,

and another rumpled linen runner covers the pillow for a look as fresh as evergreens.

We have a sixty degree day going on here, but that won't stop me from having my wintry scene!

I hope you are enjoying all of the delightful sights and smells of the season . . .

Jacqueline

  2. I love fresh evergreens. We always had a real tree that we cut down in the mountains until some of us began having allergies. I grew up with the tradition of cutting our own tree and up until a few years ago we did the same with our children. I have never really liked the artificial trees until I found white ones. We still bought a 4 ft noble fir that is in a galvanized bucket at our front door to greet guests. It smells wonderful. We also have redwoods surrounding our home to view through the windows. Your cozy sitting spot is just what I love. That book!!! Oh how I have wanted it too. Lucky lucky you And the twinkle lights are fairylike. Enjoy. xxo

  6. I love the fresh greens and all your whites. It's so clean and fresh looking. We are getting a cold rain and wind storm here today. It's not been a nice day at all so I've been trying to stay cozy in the house. Sixty degrees sounds wonderful to me. :)

  12. As always, I am in love with your beautiful simplicity = and feel the same way about greens. I am so blessed to be able to get mine from my trees, I have a lot of them.

I need to do some posts about my Christmas decor one of these days - golly there's just never enough TIME! Or when there may be, it is as gloomy out as all can be. Ugh. Well, I am glad your weather is mild, getting colder daily here.

  14. I never tire or looking at your home.

We went with an artificial tree this year, but I also bought a small real tree that I have in a metal bucket. I hope it grows a little each year.

I am trying to figure out what is going on. All of the blogger blogs I read now require word/number verification, even mine although I have it checked not to use it. Have you recently added word verification because I don't recall having to use it before on your blog?

  19. Jacqueline your home is always so lovely and calming. On this visit I can smell the pine and the eucalyptus blending together. Simple and quiet is your trademark. What is up with the comments. Is this something new? I see it on everyone that I visit. Not a problem, but was told when I first started blogging that it should be turned off or no one would visit, and here it is again..Happy Thursday anyway..Judy
